Ravi Verma

He was the one who gave recognisable visages to Shiva and Vishnu, Rama and Krishna and any number of Apsaras. He was the first to acquire expertise in oil painting technique. Some would dismiss much of his monumental creations as 'Calendar Art' but the second half of the 20th Century saw a spurt of interest accross the world in his work. There is evidently a continuing wonderment in the unique qualities and the equally unique historical role of Raja Ravi Verma 1848 - 1906
